Al-Kindi Plaza

In 1977, the Saudi Government, decided to transfer the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all foreign diplomatic representations from Jeddah to Riyadh. A new diplomatic quarter has been built as an extension of the Riyadh urban area. This self-contained district covers a 700ha ground surface and is designed to accommodate as many as 120 foreign diplomatic missions with a maximum population of 24.000 people. Block 3 Centre constitutes the core of the Diplomatic Quarter Central Area. En 1977, el Gobierno saudí decidió transferir el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y todas las representaciones diplomáticas extranjeras de Jeddah a Riad. Se ha construido un nuevo barrio diplomático extendiendo el área urbana de Riad. Este distrito autónomo cubre una superficie de 700ha y está diseñado para albergar hasta 120 misiones diplomáticas extranjeras con una población máxima de 24,000 personas. El Centro del Bloque 3 constituye el núcleo central del Barrio Diplomático. Situated some 10km north-west of down-town Riyadh, the diplomatic quarter lies in a desert site with a limestone ecology. It is bounded to the west by the Wadi Hanifah and can be accessed on the south from the Hijaz Freeway and on the north-east from the Salbukh Road. The Central Area consists of a 170 meters wide strip extending for some 1200 meters bounded by the quarter's two main thoroughfares; it is connected to the residential areas by pedestrian walkways and side roads.
