Is not it amazing how fast time goes by? han pasado algo mas de diez años de nuestra primera vez. ¿No es asombroso lo rápido que transcurre el tiempo? The car's engine roared even after we had stopped it in the shade of some lanky poplars. The relentless sun was beating down on the gravel of the road, then square, to access. We descended almost unnoticed into the earth through a sort of excavated crevice. We walked in the sunshine for a few hours, crossing every corner of that telluric path, going up from the pit to the ledge, back down again and back up finally, like a Sisyphus with tired feet looking for rest under some trees paralysed by the heatwave. With the sun at its most perfect vertical, the shadows were minimal, motionless. I think we completely lost track of the passing of time. El motor del coche bramaba incluso después de haberlo detenido a la sombra de unos chopos espigados. El sol, implacable, nos aplastaba contra la grava del camino, plaza después, de acceso. Descendimos casi sin percibirlo hasta el interior de la tierra por una suerte de grieta excavada. Anduvimos a pleno sol algunas horas, recorriendo cada rincón de aquel camino telúrico, subiendo de la fosa a la cornisa, volviendo a descender y de nuevo arriba, como un Sísifo de pies cansados buscando reposo bajo unos arboles paralizados ante la canícula. Con el sol en su vertical más perfecta, las sombras mínimas, inmóviles. Creo que perdimos por completo la noción del paso del tiempo. I admit now that it was not really the first time we met, but I like to remember it that way. A memory frozen by a distorted perception of time. Later other moments came , some brief, others more intense. All of them hung in my memory almost like medals. Admito ahora que aquella no fue realmente la primera vez en que nos encontramos, pero me gusta recordarlo así.
