Bagh-e Fin Garden

Muslim gardens which have survived into the present: for example, the famous gardens in Granada and Cordoba in Spain, and the lovely gardens in Srinagar, Kashmir. One of the most beautiful classical Muslim gardens to have survived through the ages is Bagh-e Fin, in central Iran. This example is one of the most ancient type so oasis gardens, as well as an archetypical example of a “paradise garden” (meaning “enclosed space” from old Persian) built in the desert. Bagh-e Fin garden is located 6 km from the city of Kashan in the village of Fin. Built almost a thousand years ago, it is somewhat elevated and detached from its surroundings. A pleasant walk brings one to plastered stone walls, 8 meters high, which surround and enclose the garden (of about 1.5 hectares). Upon arrival, there is a feeling of expectation and mystery. The first glimpse reveals a hint of water, which can be seen flowing in channels through the orchard. Over the centuries, instead of the fruit trees in the original design, the dominan tree planting has become the cypress. La tradición islámica otorgó una gran importancia a los jardines y a sus componentes. Existen varios ejemplos de jardines musulmanes, como, por ejemplo, los famosos jardines hispanomusulmanes de Córdoba y Granada en España y los encantadores jardines en Srniagar en Cachemira. Uno de los jardines clásicos más hermosos del mundo musulmán que ha llegado hasta nuestros días es el jardín iraní Bagh-e Fin, situado en el centro del país, uno de los ejemplos más antiguos de Jardines de oasis, además de un arquetipo del “jardín del paraíso” (que, en persa antiguo quiere decir “espacio cerrado”) construido en medio del desierto. Los jardines de Bagh-e Fin están situados a seis kilómetros de la ciudad de Kashan, en el pueblo de Fin. Construido hace mil años, el jardín se encuentra elevado y separado respecto de su entorno.
