Casa Alcock I

The Alcock House I on the mountains of the outskirts of Caracas, is placed on a very narrow and steep (35%) piece of land, full of vegetation, and with an impressive view that dominates the city from the distance (…) La Casa Alcock I en las montañas de las afueras de Caracas está ubicada en un terreno con mucha pendiente (35%-60%) y angosto, lleno de vegetación, y con una vista impresionante que domina la ciudad en la distancia (…) Having to avoid any land movement, the house adopts the form of a cubical volume standing on four columns. The pilotis were stuck as far as possible from the street, placing the house close to a small stream, and leaving space for the garden. The horizontal plane of the main floor is somewhat lower than the street, but the house still dominates over the trees, projecting its cubical self into the void, which at first hand gives the impression of being only one-story high. Two light bridges cross the gap between the house and the topography, vertically occupied by a piece of the garden. Habiendo que evitar todo movimiento de tierra, la casa adopta la forma de un cuerpo cúbico apoyado en cuatro columnas. Los pilotes se clavan lo más lejos posible de la calle, colocando la casa próxima a una pequeña quebrada, y dejando así espacio para el jardín. El plano horizontal de la planta principal está algo más bajo que la calle, pero la casa todavía domina sobre la copa de los árboles, proyectando horizontalmente sobre el vacío su volumen, que , a primera vista, pareciera de una sola planta. Dos ligeros puentes salvan la brecha entre la casa y la topografía, por entre la que se cuela verticalmente una parte del jardín.
