Córdoba Bus Station

When I was commissioned to design the Cordoba Bus Station Project, a multitude of memories of my first journeys came to mind. Intense memories, typical of the adventure that every journey entails, associated with images of platforms, ticket offices, waiting rooms, canteens for passenger service, the comings and goings of passengers, trains and buses, long and tense waits, the excitement of arrivals and farewells. Old memories that merged in turn with more recent memories and sensations related to the Mosque and the courtyards of Cordoba, with the Andalusian streets, with their space, with their light, with their flowers, with the sound of water in the courtyards of the Alhambra, in the gardens of the Generalife and in the Alcazar, …., with the smell of orange blossom, jasmine, rosemary, the lady of the night, ….. with the colours of the glass of the round arches of Cádiz and Havana, with the light and colour of the Impressionists, with the textures of Luis Barragán's walls,… With the strength and subtlety of Carlos Raul Villanueva's Plaza Cubierta or Farruco Sesto's Club para los Trabajadores de Guayana, with the motley and unusual market square of Marrakech, with images of caravans moving through the desert, and camping in oases, under starry skies. Memories, full of emotion, associated with marvellous images and sensations, accompanied the commission of this Project. Cuando me encargaron el Proyecto de la Estación de Autobuses de Córdoba, me venían a la mente y se agolpaban en ella multitud de recuerdos de mis primeros viajes. Recuerdos intensos, propios de la aventura que todo viaje conlleva, asociados a imagenes de andenes, de taquillas de venta de billetes, de salas de espera, de cantinas para servicio de viajeros, del ir y venir de estos, de trenes, y de autobuses, de las largas y tensas esperas, de la emoción de las llegadas y de las despedidas.
