Gas Station “La Estrella”

In a location with a great unevenness and singular shape, a perfectly defined element is inserted in its geometry that solves, in addition to a formal limit, the essential road junction for what at that time was the entrance to the town of Puerto de la Cruz. Articulating element -an indicator like a wind rose-, this six-pointed umbrella, executed with sheets of reinforced concrete, clearly follows the structural examples advanced by Félix Candela, to which Luis Cabrera was no stranger. The gas station, before the road traffic, acts as a great dynamo that receives and launches the cars. An almost machine element in its plan readings, this fact, this centripetal/centrifugal movement, continues at all its levels and in all the details that we observe of this work, from the foundation to the intermediate slab, from the large central pillar to the umbrella of auction the root, the trunk, the branches and the top of the tree. En un emplazamiento de gran desnivel y forma singular, se inserta en su geometría un elemento perfectamente definido que resuelve, además de un límite formal, el imprescindible nudo viario de lo que en su momento fue la entrada a la localidad de Puerto de la Cruz. Elemento articulador -un indicador a modo de rosa de los vientos-, este paraguas de seis puntas, ejecutado con planchas de hormigón armado, sigue claramente los ejemplos estructurales avanzados por Félix Candela, a los que Luis Cabrera no era ajeno. La gasolinera, ante el tráfico rodado, actúa como una gran dinamo que recibe y lanza los coches. Elemento casi maquinal en su lectura en planta, este hecho, este movimiento centrípeto/centrífugo, se prolonga en todos sus niveles y en todos los detalles que observamos de esta obra, desde la cimentación al forjado intermedio, desde el gran pilar central al paraguas de remate la raíz, el tronco, las ramas y la copa del árbol.
