LiMa IBA Housing

Designed as part of the 1987 International Building Exhibition (IBA) in Berlin, a showcase of exemplary housing designs by architects from around the world, the LiMa housing complex is one of Hertzberger's most elegant housing projects. Further developing what Hertzberger calls ‘chain-type’ dwellings, which he first realised in Kassel, the project also involves the completion of an existing courtyard and the creation of a new one, and is intended as a critique of what Hertzberger characterises as the negative qualities of typical Berlin housing courtyards: “Where else can you find such deep housing blocks with desolate backyards and second-rate dwellings too close together, often without sun and with very little natural light?” Diseñado como parte de la Exposición Internacional de la Construcción (IBA) de 1987 en Berlín, un escaparate de diseños de viviendas ejemplares de arquitectos de todo el mundo, el complejo de viviendas LiMa es uno de los proyectos de vivienda con mayor elegancia de Hertzberger.
