Manila, El Correo 1.4

El Correo is a series that compiles the informal and playful exchange of letters between the editors of Hidden Architecture, defining a contingent editorial line. El Correo es una serie que recopila el intercambio epistolar, informal y lúdico, entre los editores de Hidden Architecture, definiendo una línea editorial contingente. Hector, as you know, I arrived in Manila on Saturday to continue my archival work on the relationship between Spanish colonial architecture and the environment. However, ironically, an extreme weather event, a topic I studied during the colonial period, has radically changed my plans for this week. A typhoon named Dante is affecting the Philippine archipelago, and since I arrived, it has rained nonstop. During my stay in Japan, I considered how to continue El Correo series and whether to write about a temple or villa in that country. A part of me was hesitant, unsure if it was because you had already used a building in Tokyo, or if my instinct was waiting for an event like this one. Héctor, como sabes llegué el sábado a Manila para continuar con mi trabajo de archivo sobre la relación entre arquitectura colonial española y medioambiente. Pero irónicamente, un fenómeno meteorológico extremo, un tema que me interesa para el periodo colonial, ha hecho saltar mis planes por los aires. Un tifón llamado Dante está atravesando el archipiélago filipino y prácticamente desde mi llegada no ha dejado de llover de una forma que no había visto antes. Durante mi estancia en Japón pensé en cómo continuar esta serie del correo, si escribía sobre la arquitectura de algún templo o villa. Una parte de mi se resistía. No sé si por qué tú ya habías utilizado un edificio de aquel país, o tal vez mi instinto esperaba a un evento como el que estoy siendo espectador.
