Parallax Towers

The Steven Holl proposal aimed to continue Manhattan´s 72nd Street into the Hudson River and was one of the first projects where the architect researched abou the possibilities of the threedimensionality that skycrapers can achieve. First, the super slender towers create a new urban space that is framed over the river. Moreover, Steven Holl places several public programs in the horizontal bars suspended between the towers raising the public space. The diagramatic concept of Parallax will be repeated two decades later in Beijing with the Linked Hibrid building, although part of original plasticity of the project was lost. La propuesta de Steven Holl para continuar la calle 72 de Manhattan sobre el Río Hudson es uno de los primeros proyectos donde el arquitecto investiga el potencial de tridimensionalidad que pueden tener los rascacielos. Por un lado las torres super esbeltas crean un nuevo espacio urbano que se enmarca sobre el río. Asimismo, Steven Holl sitúa varios programas púplicos en las barras horizontales suspendidas entre las torres, tales como un auditorio o un cine. El concepto diagramático de Parallax será repetido dos décadas más tarde en Beijing en el edificio Linked Hibrid , aunque perdiendo parte de la plasticidad original.
