Proaza Hydroelectric Power Plant

*** Project proposed by César Alonso Moro *** In 1964, it was intended to solve the Salto of Proaza and the project was directly commissioned to Vaquero Palacios, author and coordinator of the different aspects of this building. For this project, light and integration of the building within the landscape were his main attempts and it can be considered as one of the projects were architecture, engineering, painting and sculpture are better combined. The floor plan is a 36 x 12 meters rectangle with columns every 4 meters. The main room has a triple height three and there are three more underground levels where electricity is created. The building, with a brutalist style, has a faceted facade as an abstraction of the mountains of the surrounding landscape. The shortest facade, however, is flat and evokes the history of the place. Sixteen old letter references man and nature. These pieces were made in cast concrete and have a dimensions of 2 x 2 meters with a depth of half meter. En 1964 se planteó resolver el Salto de Proaza y el encargo fue directamente a Vaquero Palacios, autor y coordinador de las distintas facetas que intervienen en la obra. En este proyecto la luz y la integración en el paisaje fueron sus obsesiones pudiendo considerarse como el que con mayor claridad fusiona la ingeniería, arquitectura, pintura y escultura. La planta tiene unas dimensiones de 36x12m con pórticos cada 4m. El edificio se desarrolla en una gran sala a triple altura y oculta tres niveles más subterráneos donde se produce la electricidad. La central de gran modernidad se resuelve con un lenguaje brutalista. El cerramiento está compuesto por una plegadura de hormigón visto considerada como una abstracción de las montañas que rodean el valle. La fachada más corta, visible desde la vía, se resuelve plana y en contraste con el futurismo que la plegadura anterior evoca aquí se ve representado el pasado.
