The Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo, S.A., which produces light cars in Spain, has built, in accordance with Spanish social legislation, canteens for its staff at the Barcelona factory. An area of land at the south-west end of the factory was chosen as the site, the only one not affected by the plan for future extensions which will surround it in the near future. The land is completely horizontal, made up of earth from the dump, accumulated in order to raise the ground level, which in this area of Barcelona is sometimes affected by flooding. A., que produce en España automóviles de tipo ligero, ha construido, siguiendo las normas de la legislación social española, unos comedores para su personal en la factoria de Barcelona. Se eligió como emplazamiento una zona de terreno en el extremo sudoeste de la factoría, la única no afectada por el plan de futuras ampliaciones que la rodearán en plazo próximo. El terreno es absolutamente horizontal, formado por tierras de echadizo, acumuladas con objeto de elevar el nivel del suelo que en esta zona de Barcelona está afectada a veces por inundaciones. The canteens will have the capacity to serve meals to 1600 workers, 300 administrative staff and 100 technicians. There will be two successive meal shifts, the surface area can therefore be reduced by half in the canteens, but not in the kitchen. The kitchen will be able to prepare full hot meals for all diners. There shall be easy communication between the kitchen and dining rooms with ample office space to permit rapid service. Space will be provided so that one of the dining rooms can be converted at any given time into a small showroom and lunch can be served in the event of a group of visitors to the factory. Toilets and cloakrooms will be provided in sufficient numbers, taking into account those already existing in other parts of the factory.
