Valéria P. Cirell House

The Valéria Cirell house is very different from other traditional residences from the 50s and 60s. Buit with a large geometric volume and a rustic facade, this residence, located in the Morumbi neighborhood of São Paulo, was designed by Lina Bo Bardi for her friend Valéria P. Cirell in 1958. The program includes a living and dining room, two bedrooms, kitchen, laundry room, and mezzanine, in addition to the veranda and the outhouse. La casa Valéria Cirell es muy diferente a las residencias tradicionales de los años 50 y 60. Formada por un gran volumen geométrico, con fachada rústica, esta residencia ubicada en el barrio Morumbi de São Paulo fue diseñada por Lina Bo Bardi para su amiga Valéria P Cirell en 1958. El programa incluye una sala comedor, dos dormitorios, cocina, lavadero, entrepiso, además de la galería y el cobertizo. Considered a daring construction even for the present day, the residence is built with contrasts. The modern lines contrast with the facade made up of stones, ceramic shards, and rolled pebbles. The craftsmanship of construction solutions distanced the project from Lina's other works, mainly made up of steel, reinforced concrete, and glass structures. The Valéria house is more organic, which is shown by the strong integration with the gardens. The vegetation invades the structure of the house, running through the walls and forming two roof terraces covered in green that absorb rainwater and promote the thermal comfort of the house. Considerada una construcción atrevida incluso para la actualidad, la residencia está hecha de contrastes. Las líneas modernas contrastan con la fachada formada por piedras, fragmentos de cerámica y cantos rodados. Las soluciones constructivas más artesanales terminaron por distanciar el proyecto de las demás obras de Lina, compuestas en su mayoría por estructuras de acero, hormigón armado y vidrio. La casa Valéria es más orgánica, lo que se demuestra con su fuerte integración con los jardines.
