Zorita Nuclear Power Plant Village

The original project for this first Nuclear Power Plant that Unión Eléctrica Madrileña is building in Zorita (Guadalajara) was based on a very compact environmental plan. Its design responded to the needs of climate, group coexistence and constructive economy, with standard modules for dwellings that would allow the incorporation of variants according to the needs of the users. The residence for single graduates served as the central nucleus of the settlement, using its spaces for the various activities required by the life of an isolated group. The buildings were arranged on a large platform with vegetation that served as the ground for the distribution routes, both vehicular and pedestrian. The playground areas were distributed in areas outside the settlement. El proyecto original de esta primera Central Nuclear que Unión Eléctrica Madrileña está construyendo en Zorita (Guadalajara) obedecía a un esquema de gran compacidad ambiental. Su diseño respondía a unas necesidades climáticas, de convivencia de grupo y economia constructiva unos módulos tipo para viviendas que permitan la incorporación de variantes según las necesidades de los usuarios. La residencia para titulados solteros servía como núcleo central al poblado, utilizando sus espacios para las diversas actividades que requiere la vida de un grupo aislado. Los edificios iban dispuestos sobre una gran plataforma con vegetación que servía de suelo para las vías de distribución, tanto rodada como de peatones. Las áreas de juegos se distribuían en zonas exteriores al poblado. The project, currently underway, for the settlement for the Zorita Nuclear Power Plant is based on a concept of dispersion more favourable to the needs of the group that will live there. The general scheme obeys urban planning criteria of great formal simplicity: an axial circulation that rests on the embankment of the track of an unserviced railway; from this axis alternate branches that serve the dwellings.
